The Swim Timing System is made up of three components:

  • Input (Start System, Relay Judging, Input Computer, and Finish System)
  • Output (Printer, Scoreboard, Meet Management, Video Output)
  • System 6 Timing Console

All three systems must be working properly to make a functioning Swim Timing System. Listed below are some of the common symptoms for System 6 component troubleshooting. Try the suggested remedies exactly as given, one at a time, and in the order listed. Be sure to record the remedies tried and their results for future reference. Troubleshooting System 6

No display at all when power is turned on

  • Check power adapter cable and wall outlet

Swimming race timer does not start:

  • Step 1: Make sure your start system cable is properly and securely attached. Refer to Chapter 2 or your start system manual for instructions.
  • Step 2: Clean connectors. Refer to Page 64
  • Step 3: Check cabling. Refer to Page 65
  • Step 4: Check start system. Refer to Page 67 or your start system manual.

Swimming Software does not register pad or finish button/backup

  • Step 1: The timer must be ready for a pad hit. Ensure that the pad armed indicator is displayed in the appropriate lane(s). Refer to Chapter 4 for complete instructions.
  • Step 2: Confirm that the lane mapping is set properly for the lane(s). Refer to Chapter 4 Setups Menu, Pool setups (page 46) for complete instructions.
  • Step 3: Make sure touchpad and button cables are properly and securely connected. Refer to Chapter 2
  • Step 4: Clean connectors. Refer to page 64.
  • Step 5: Check cabling. Refer to page 65.
  • Step 6: Check touchpad(s) or button(s). Refer to page 73.

 

Troubleshooting Inputs

Start system does not start race time

  • Step 1: Make sure start system cable is properly attached. Refer to Chapter 2 or your start system manual for complete instructions.
  • Step 2: Clean connectors. Refer to page 64.
  • Step 3: Check cabling. Refer to page 65.
  • Step 4: Check start system. Refer to page 71 or your start system manual.

Finish system pad or finish button/backup button hits are not registered on the display screen

 

  • Step 1: Swimming software must be ready for a pad hit. Ensure that the pad arm indicator is displayed in the appropriate lane(s). Refer to Chapter 4 for a complete explanation.
  • Step 2: Make sure touchpad and button cables are properly and securely connected. Refer to Chapter 2 for cabling instructions.
  • Step 3: Clean connectors. Refer to page 64.
  • Step 4: Check cabling. Refer to page 65.
  • Step 5: Check touchpad(s) or button(s). Refer to page 73.

Early and late relay departures are not indicated on chatter splits printout

  • Ensure that the RJP interface interface cable is connected to the RJP and to the “Button A” connector on the touchpad cable harness or deckplate. Refer to Chapter 2 or the RJP manual for cabling instructions.

Button A backup times are not indicated on display screen or printed on race printout

  • Ensure that the backup buttons are connected to the stackable banana plug on the cable harness end of the RJP cable. Refer to Chapter 2 or the RJP manual for cabling instructions.

No relay judging exchange or summary printout

  • Ensure that the desired printout options are listed in the print format setup. Refer to Chapter 4 (setups, page 44) for complete instructions.

 

Troubleshooting Outputs

Printer does not print

  • Step 1: Make sure printer is set on-line and is loaded with paper.
  • Step 2: Make sure cable connections are secure. Refer to Chapter 2.
  •  Step 3: Clean printer cable connectors. Refer to page 65.
  • Step 4: Check cabling. Refer to page 65.
  • Step 5: Try pressing the form feed key. Refer to page 39.

Scoreboard is not working at all

  • Step 1: Make sure scoreboard has power and is turned on. Refer to scoreboard manual.
  • Step 2: Make sure scoreboard is not blanked. Refer to Scoreboard softkey, page 41 and scoreboard setups (page 47) sections in Chapter 4.
  • Step 3: Make sure scoreboard cable is properly connected. Refer to Chapter 2.
  • Step 4: Check scoreboard cable connectors for corrosion and clean or replace as necessary.

Scoreboard is not showing expected results

  • Step 1: Make sure scoreboard cable is properly connected. Refer to scoreboard manual.
  • Step 2: Check scoreboard connectors for corrosion and clean or replace as necessary.
  • Step 3: Ensure that scoreboard DIP switches for each module are set to the proper physical address. Refer to Chapter 2 and/or scoeboard manual for complete instructions.
  • Step 4: Check logical addresses in the Swimming software. Refer to Setups in Chapter 4 (page 43), channel selection on page 16, or call Colorado Time Systems’ Customer Service Department.

Event Sequence Download does not work

  • Step 1: Make sure Allow Remote Setup is enabled in Setups/Hardware Setup. Refer to page 44.
  • Step 2: Exit Setups you cannot download an event sequence if Swimming 6 is in setup mode.
  • Step 3: Make sure meet management cable is connected to Com Port 1 on your System 6 back panel.
